The ROVER 2300 of the SD1 series is equipped with the smaller six-cylinder engine. Shown is the Mark II version.
One year after the market launch of the ROVER SD1 3500 with the V8 engine, two six-cylinder models were added, the 2300 with the smaller 2.3-litre engine and the 2600 with the 2.6-litre engine. The engines were a development of Triumph, which together with ROVER formed the "Special Division" of Leyland - Group.
The equipment of the 2300 was a little simpler than that of the 3500, but still complete by the standards of the time. The car was aimed at middle management, was well received and sold quite well.
Nevertheless, the form was always a challenge - otherwise you only saw " well-behaved " saloons in this class. The hatchback was already known from the Citroen CX, but it lacked the practical tailgate. The rather bulky and retrofitted dashboard was also repeatedly criticized, as was the "out-of-round" steering wheel.
