200 Series

From Japanese to British

1984 - 1999

Under ROVER 200 there are three different development series, which are very different from each other. So it is worth taking a closer look and looking at the individual model series.
For distinction we use the terms "Mark I", "II" and "III", although these were never officially used.

Starting with a series that can only be recognized externally as ROVER by the logos on the front and rear and can hardly be distinguished from its Japanese sisters, through an already more modified series that fits completely into the ROVER family up to the third series that no longer has any parallel models, this is the most comprehensive ROVER model series at all - and a both important and successful one.Under ROVER 200 there are three different development series, which are very different from each other. 1984-89 ROVER 200 Mark I

Rover 213, 1984-1989 The result of working with Honda. The car was expected under the Triumph - logo as the successor of Acclaim, but the car division of British Leyland was now Austin Rover. They were still convinced of the image of the name ROVER, so the series was now called ROVER 200.

1990-95/99 ROVER 200 Mark II

Rover 214S, 1990-1993 The result of another fruitful collaboration with Honda. The second 200 series, whose front is still oriented on the front of the SD1 and the Rover 800 series, will be adapted to the new Rover look after a short construction period and will have a radiator grille in keeping with the Rover tradition.
In 1992 and 1993, the range was extended to include coupés and convertibles, which remained in the range until 1999.

1995-99 ROVER 200 Mark III

Rover 200, 1995-1999 A complete reorientation shifts the 200 series into the small car class and thus rounds off the ROVER range downwards. Nevertheless, the car remains in the upper region of its class in terms of equipment. The engine range is quite extensive, there is nothing to complain about in the equipment. This time there is no Honda-parallel model anymore, although some design details from the previous collaboration are adopted. There are versions with three and five doors.
As this ROVER 200 Mark III was introduced when ROVER already belonged to BMW, all further details can also be found in this period under [ ⇒ third generation of the 200 Series ].
