Camshaft is driven by silent chain from crankshaft. Chain not adjustable but provided with an automatic tensioning device
Lubrication
By full pressure. The sump contains 2 gallons of oil, which is circulated by gear-type pressure pump to every bearing in the engine
An oil pressure gauge and water temperature gauge are combined is fitted on the facia board inside the car
Cooling
Engine cooling is thermostatically controlled
The cooling water is circulated by pump and a fan is also provided. Both are driven by link belt from the front end of the crankshaft, and this belt must be kept in correct tension by adjustment, when necessary, of the fan pulley
Ignition
By Lucas coil and accumulator, the distributor being very accessibly placed
Care must be taken to switch off the ignition whenever the engine is stationary, otherwise the battery discharges through the coil
The accumulator is carried in the near side front wing, where it is readily accessible for the periodical attention that is very necessary, i.e., attention for level of acid, etc.
